Introduction
Since 1985, nearly 800 young men have graduated from Holy Cross
High School and continued their education at St. John’s University.
Their extraordinary success has been an unmistakable reflection of
the superior education provided by both institutions, and it is
with this tradition in mind that the Holy Cross High School/St.
John’s University Endowed Scholarship Fund has been
established.
This mutually beneficial initiative has the full support of Holy
Cross High School and St. John’s University. It will
provide financial assistance to academically gifted but
economically burdened Holy Cross graduates, allowing them to
develop and flourish academically, spiritually and culturally while
receiving an exceptional, values-based education. It will provide
the University with additional high quality students who, without
such support, would be unable to attend
St. John’s.
St. John’s Unique Mission
As a Vincentian institution, St. John’s is committed to serving
those among us whose needs are great. The University’s Board of
Trustees has mandated that at least 40% of the members of each
incoming class come from families designated as being in Very High
Financial Need, meaning that their annual incomes fall below
$28,000. During the current academic year that figure rose to an
astounding 48%, with 95% of St. John’s undergraduates receiving
some form of financial aid. During the current academic year the
University distributed $380.3 million in financial aid, of which
$164.2 million came from St. John’s own funds.
