A defining moment in the University’s history, it’s relocation
from its humble beginnings on Lewis Avenue to the sprawling
100-acre Hillcrest Country Club property in Queens in 1955, was
inspired by the vision and wisdom of former University treasurer
Rev. Thomas J. McCallen, C.M.
The McCallen Society - named in his honor - serves to thank Gift Planning donors who include St.
John’s in their estate plans. Members fulfill their philanthropic
goals by securing a future for loved ones and providing much-needed
funds to support facilities enhancement, scholarships, advanced
technology and innovative academic initiatives at the
University.
