Giving at STJ

When St. John’s University was founded in 1870, its primary mission was to provide a quality education to deserving young men and women from the underserved populations of New York.   Many of those students came from families bearing the burden of financial hardship, a reality which has endured to this very day.  Today, as in 1870, the St. John’s mission is both simple in its philosophy and profound in its implications.

Embracing the values of St. Vincent de Paul, the University is committed to providing our more than 20,000 students with a superior academic experience grounded within the Catholic philosophy and the Vincentian tradition of caring and concern for others.

It is through the sustained generosity of our donors and special friends that St. John’s unique mission continues to thrive.  Our dedicated alumni, parents, employees, students and friends provide a significant portion of the resources necessary to allow the University to carry its message throughout the world.  Whether providing a much-needed scholarship to a deserving student from right here at home, or funding an academic chair to attract an international scholar to our classrooms, or providing support to send a group of students on humanitarian missions in countries near and far – our donors make a very real difference in the lives of very real people.  And that difference will last for generations to come.

There are numerous ways to give, and our development professionals are always available to help donors determine the most beneficial ways – for both themselves and the University – to make a gift.

We invite you to contact a member of the staff or call the Office of Annual Giving at (718) 990-1816 to see which types of gifts are best for you.

And remember, when you make a gift, you are helping to ensure that St. John’s University will continue to reflect the ideals of opportunity and excellence – for today and tomorrow.
