So much has been going on here in Spain! I’m not even sure where
to begin. Between all the sightseeing and my
fantastic classes, it’s been a thrill a minute.

My friends from back home have been telling me how warm it is in
New York, so I figure I’ll start off by describing Spain’s equally
fantastic weather. It’s been sunny, hot and overall beautiful. A
few of my friends took a trip to Barcelona last week and came back
sunburnt, so you can imagine just how summery it’s been!
Meanwhile, I took a trip to Seville with a few of my friends,
where the weather was hot yet comfortable. As I walked around, I
saw so many examples of the town’s distinct Moorish architecture. I
also got to experience my first-ever paddle-boat
ride, which was fun until my friend almost got crushed by a
boat! Kidding aside, it was a lot of fun and a moment I won’t soon
forget. Afterward, I saw a free Flamenco show, which was really
entertaining. It’s a distinct aspect of Spanish culture, so if
you’re ever in Spain, be sure to check it out!
My friends and I then went on a tour of the rest of the city.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture much of this on video. You see,
our tour guide was afraid that I was going to put the videos on a
random Web site to make fun of him! (I assured him that this was
not the case, but he was still suspicious!)
Despite this, we had a great time touring the Seville
Cathedral, which, by the way, is the largest cathedral in Spain
and the third-largest church in the entire world. We also visited
Alcazar of
Seville, a royal palace that originally served as a Moorish
fort. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen – in
fact, I kind of wish I could live there! Though I didn’t get much
video of these sights, I made sure to snap a ton of photos, so be
sure to check them out to see for yourself how great it
was.
And let’s not forget about my classes! I’ve been learning all
about Spanish history, which has complemented my sightseeing
wonderfully. I’ve learned all about the Spanish Inquisition and
Arabian control over Spain. As I mentioned, I’ve been noticing all
of the Moorish architecture and Arabian qualities that still
dominate Spanish cities. I’ve been seeing firsthand how
contemporary Spain evolved into what it is today.
With only a few weeks left, I’ve got to make the most out of my
time here in Europe. I’m looking forward to next week’s entry, when
I tackle the great city of Madrid. I hope you’re looking forward to
it, too!
Until then, adios amigos!
