Alumni Insider's View Programs

The Alumni Insider’s View…Programs enable St. John’s University students to obtain real-world knowledge about a chosen profession and/or field while drawing upon the professional experiences of some of our most successful alumni.  By serving as panelists, speakers and moderators, alumni provide students with keen insights based upon years of experience within their individual professions and careers.

Some of the Alumni Insider’s View Programs are:

•    U.S. Capital – a three-day program in Washington, DC to learn firsthand the federal government and private sectors. 
•    New York State Capital – a full-day program at the New York State Capital to learn firsthand the state government and private sectors. 
•    Day on Wall Street – a full-day program visiting the major financial institutions of Wall Street.
•    College to Career - a support program for freshmen, informing them about what to expect during their college years and how to prepare for a career upon graduation.
•    Pursuing A Career In Business – a speed networking format to discuss career opportunities in the various business related professions.
•    Life After College – a panel format, providing information on a career in education as well as the professional and financial implications.
•    Mock Interview – a mock interview format in the fields of education and educational administration through interactive role playing activities.
•    Criminal Justice Connection – a networking format from the fields of law enforcement to discuss their personal career paths and describe the professional opportunities.
•    Legal Studies Connection – a full-day program touring the Richmond County District Attorney’s office, followed by a presentation from the Richmond County District Attorney.
•    Sport Management Connection – a networking format from the fields of both amateur and professional athletics and sport management careers in these areas.
•    Communications Connection – a full-day program touring The Museum of Television and Radio and learning about careers in electronic communications.
•    Liberal Arts Speed Networking Connection – a networking format sharing specifics of the many careers available to graduates with a Liberal Arts degree.


Additional Student Engagement Activities
•    Leaders in Education Awards Dinner (L.E.A.D.) – an annual event held on the Queens, Staten Island and Oakdale campuses for students and alumni from St. John’s The School of Education to network and recognize successful alumni for their achievements in education and educational administration.
•    Maureen A. Hartigan Forum – students in St. John’s The School of Education network with successful alumni to learn how to secure a career in education or educational administration.
•    Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner – an annual dinner co-sponsored by the Black Alumni Association (BAA) in which students and alumni join to commemorate the memory, recognize the achievements and dedicate themselves to the ideals of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
