Looking to become one of the world’s best
teachers?
We’ve scheduled two highly regarded educational forums to
help you hit the ground running when you’re ready to get your first
teaching job.
Carol Gresser Forum
Want to learn about today’s most pressing Education
issues from some of the most knowledgeable sources? Be sure to
check out the
Carol Gresser Forum.
Established at St. John’s University in 1998, the Carol Gresser
Forum is held twice each year and features lectures from
exceptional scholars and leaders who have made significant impacts
on the education process locally, nationally and internationally.
It is named in honor of the former President of the New York City
Board of Education and St. John’s alumna Carol Gresser ’59Ed.
Shael Polakow-Suranksy, Chief Academic Officer of the New York
City Department of Education, will speak at the upcoming forum. His
vast knowledge of the local school system will make for a
fascinating lecture that you definitely don’t want to
miss.
Maureen A. Hartigan Forum
The Maureen A. Hartigan Forum offers students guidance, insight and
practical interviewing skills as they head for the other side of
the desk to a career in the education. St. John’s alumni have been
leaders in education for more than 100 years, so it’s a pretty safe
bet that they know how it’s done. And they’re ready to give
you their personal suggestions about what you need to get your foot
inside the classroom door. They’ll tell their own stories of what
teaching is really like, and give you a heads-up on what you need
for a successful job search. It is named in memory of Maureen A.
Hartigan ’55Ed, former President of the School of Education Alumni
Association.
Take advantage of what these forums have to offer, and someday
you’ll be coming back to share your own success stories with
tomorrow’s students.
