Gerard Fernandez, Jr.
Gerard Fernandez, Jr. received his J.D. from St. John’s School of Law in 1950. Throughout his outstanding legal career he has remained at the firm of Hawkins, Delafield & Wood, LLP, joining as a young attorney fresh from law school in 1950, serving as Partner from 1960-1994 and serving as Of Counsel, his current position, since 1995. Recognizing the importance of sharing his professional expertise with others, he has been a member of numerous committees of both the American and New York State Bar Associations, and in 1990 participated in the Moscow Conference on Law and Economic Cooperation at the Kremlin in the former Soviet Union. Always ready to reach out to others, since 1954 he has been a member, and is currently a Trustee, of the United Church of Christ of Rockville Centre. He has demonstrated his loyal support of alma mater as a member of The Loughlin Society at a variety of levels, and in 2000 a grateful University presented him with the Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2000 he was also recognized by the Bar Association of Nassau County for 50 years of service, and in 2004 he received the Special Achievement Award from The Municipal Forum of New York. Tonight, in celebration of his stellar legal career, his commitment to community service and in recognition of the 60th anniversary of his graduation, St. John’s University is pleased to induct Gerard Fernandez, Jr. into the Heritage Circle.
