I am pleased to advise you that Father Harrington has once again
approved a modified summer schedule for the University. The
University will be closed on Fridays, beginning May
23 and continuing through August 8.
Please note we are already scheduled to be off for the Feast of the
Assumption on Friday, August 15 and for a Special Holiday on
Monday, August 18.
As in previous years, there may be offices that require
employees to be present on some or all Fridays based on the
requirements of the department. However, when Fridays are not
required as part of a normal summer schedule within the department,
arrangements may be made to provide an alternate day off for staff
employees. Please be aware that this summer schedule does not
apply to certain departments or positions due to the nature of work
performed by those departments or positions. If you have any
questions about this, please check with your supervisor.
For record keeping purposes, each Friday during this summer
period will be counted as a full workday for charging vacation and
sick time. For example:
- If you take vacation for the week of May 26, four (4) days will
be counted as vacation time.
- If you take vacation for the week of June 30, three (3) days
will be counted as vacation time since we are closed on July 3 and
The only exception is if a “regularly scheduled holiday” were to
fall on a Friday in the summer, in which case it would not be
considered a vacation day. Friday, August 15 is the Feast of
the Assumption and therefore a scheduled holiday.
Please be advised that this modified summer schedule is an
exception to our normal University workweek and we will continue to
evaluate it on an annual basis.
Enjoy your summer!
