What are the Program
requirements?
- In consultation with their advisor, undergraduate academic dean
and graduate academic dean, students select graduate courses during
their junior and senior years. Students must complete a minimum of
12 graduate credits by the end of their senior year.
- All combined degree program students must attend the fifth year
of study as a full-time graduate student.
- In St. John’s College, students may be able to apply 12
graduate credits towards their undergraduate major. In the
College of Professional Studies students use the 12 credits as
free electives.
- Graduate courses normally meet once a week for two hours after
4 p.m. Students need to plan their schedules accordingly.
- Students may choose between a thesis and non-thesis program of
study in many programs.
- At the conclusion of their graduate program, most students must
sit for and pass a comprehensive examination (which may be written,
oral or both).
Who is qualified for admission?
At the time of application, students must have
a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (3.30 for Math) in
at least 12 credits in their major. Students must have
achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (3.30 for Psychology) or
better.
When should applications be filed?
Ideally, interested students should complete their
application during the second semester of their sophomore year.
Transfer students may apply upon completing 12 credits in their
major area of study, or in the first semester of their junior year.
Incoming first-year students may apply for provisional
admission.
