Date: Monday, August 20
Location: D'Angelo Room Center 416C
Before the Fall semester begins, why not take the opportunity to
learn something that will spark your teaching and your students'
interest. We have some suggestions, and you can learn about
one or all of them on the same day. We will start with a
light breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon.
9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Using Turnitin with Blackboard
Learn how to use Turnitin to check papers for plagiarism,
grade and provide feedback on student work using Grademark, and
tally grades using the Gradebook feature. This session will also
demonstrate how to use Turnitin seamlessly within Blackboard.
11 a.m. to noon Information Literacy -
Information is ubiquitous and easily accessible with just one
“click,” but what about the quality and appropriateness of
that information? How can faculty assist students in acquiring the
information literacy skills that will ensure their academic
success? How can we discourage plagiarism? Join us for an overview
on how faculty can help students to better locate, evaluate and
ethically use appropriate sources in their research.
12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wikis -
Wikis are useful in organizing information for students, as well as
in stimulating collaboration and communication. If you have
considered using wikis in your teaching, here’s a chance to find
out how they can encourage student engagement. You will also be
guided in how to begin to set up a wiki.
1:45 to 2:45 p.m. ePortfolios with Digication
The university provides Digication ePortfolios to all faculty and a
growing number of students. Learn how you can use it yourself as
well as with your students. It is an important tool that can
be employed as a webpage, for assessment, in presenting course
materials, and as a portfolio.
