Mickey Melendez will engage the Staten Island Campus to become more
involved in making an impact within their respective communities.
He is an activist for Latino and Puerto Rican rights. He has held
senior positions in the New York City government and has taught in
the Black and Hispanic studies department at Baruch College.
He is also the recipient of the Charles Revson Fellowship
(2004-2005) at Columbia University.
In 1968 Miguel "Mickey" Melendez was a college student,
developing pride in his Cuban and Puerto Rican cultural identity
and becoming increasingly aware of the effects of social inequality
on Latino Americans.
