Pondering St. Paul
St. Paul was the great missionary of the early Christian
Community. One can hardly exaggerate the influence of his
thinking and writing on the New Testament Church. Recognizing
this reality, St. John’s gladly responds to the invitation of Pope
Benedict by celebrating this “Year of Paul” in various
ways.
You may have seen the new banner in St. Thomas More Church or the
Chapel; you may have noticed the signs around campus which remind
us of one of Paul’s sayings (in September: “By God’s grace, I am
what I am.”); you may have seen the notice on the website; there
will be a display in the Library. Now, come to hear some
presentations on St. Paul.
Talks on Paul will be offered three times each semester of this
year. Fr. Patrick J. Griffin, CM, the Executive Vice
President for Mission and Branch Campuses, will present these basic
lectures. The talks are intended to introduce (or
re-introduce) this fascinating missionary and apostle. One
can easily see in him someone with whom St. Vincent would be very
much at home. Come, spend some time with a man whose words
and influence have thrived, challenged, and comforted for 2000
years. The biblical witness will be our
guide.
All are welcome.
