School of Law Students Awarded 2010 New
York City Bar Diversity Summer Fellowships
Tawsif Chowdhury 2L, Daphney Gachette 1L, Dominique Saint-Fort 1L
and Nkechi (“Nk”) Udogwu 1L from St. John’s University School of
Law have each been awarded a prestigious 2010 New York City Bar
Diversity Fellowship. The Fellowship Program, sponsored by the
Committee on Recruitment and Retention of Lawyers of the New York
City Bar Association, is a highly competitive program offering
first-year and second-year evening students from underrepresented
populations a unique summer employment opportunity in outstanding
law firms and corporate law departments.
Eleven New York City law schools are invited to participate in the
Fellowship Program. St. John’s, with its 4 fellowship
recipients, was one of three schools receiving the highest number
of fellowship placements. This summer, Tawsif will be working
at the New York City Law Department, Daphney at Bank of New York
Mellon, Dominique at Proskauer Rose LLP and Nk at Milbank Tweed
Hadley & McCloy LLP. The multi-level application
process includes interviews by a Law School Screening Committee by
which nominees are recommended to the Bar Association. 54
nominees from all participating law schools were then interviewed
by a panel of Bar Association Committee members to select 32
fellowship recipients. The Law School Screening Committee was
comprised of Professors Jacob Todres and Victoria Brown-Douglas,
and Assistant Dean of Career Services Dawne
Smith.
