Picture Yourself at the Country's Largest
Catholic University
St. John’s has plenty to offer students outside of the
classroom. One of the departments that attract the most attention
from St. John’s students is the Center for Campus Ministries.
Campus Ministries can provide you the opportunity to continue
following in your faith, but also the chance to serve others. As a
university founded in the tradition and heritage of St. Vincent
DePaul, who is known as the "Father of the Poor," St. John’s
students of all denominations are encouraged to volunteer with
their classmates.
St. John’s students participate in the Midnight Run program,
conduct builds for Habitat for Humanity, volunteer with Big
Brother/Big Sister, the Ronald McDonald House, and work in local
soup kitchens. Students also participate in weekend or week long
Plunges to cities like New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Panama, among
others. And even as a freshman, you can get involved in the
Freshman Plunge to Philadelphia before even starting classes.
With 15 campus ministers on staff, St. John’s believes there is
a way for everyone to get involved. A Catholic Mass is offered
twice daily and again twice on Sunday’s. Additionally there are Spirituality
programs and Leadership
programs to be a part of, along with V.I.T.A.L, the Vincentian
Initiative to Advance Learning.
