College Fairs

College fairs are effective venues for introducing St. John’s to high school students and their families. One or more high schools in an area may sponsor a day or evening program and invite selected colleges to meet with students and their families. START members are called upon to host a St. John’s table at college fairs being held in their area that our staff may not be able to reach during recruitment season. Fairs are the perfect opportunity to present St. John’s to students by providing material and answering questions for students who show an interest.  Most college fairs are held between September and November and again from April through the end of May.

On-Campus Admission Events

St. John’s Staten Island hosts several on-campus recruitment programs throughout the year providing a chance for prospective or admitted students to visit campus. Coordinated by the Admission office, our Fall Open House features representatives from across the campus showcasing our diverse strengths as a university to prospective students. Our spring Accepted Student Day gives admitted students and their families an opportunity to visit the campus before making a final college decision. As a START member, we welcome you to join us to speak with students and families about your St. John’s experience and how it continues to serve you today.

Area Receptions

St. John’s University engages prospective students from all over the country and the world. Area Receptions are hosted in the fall and spring in an effort to better connect with students near their hometowns. Senior Kick-Offs are slated for the month of August and focus on welcoming members of our incoming class into the St. John’s family. START members add a personal touch by assisting the admission and St. John’s staff. Alumni help with registration, greet people, and talk informally about the University. Alumni are also called upon to present and share brief experiences and personal successes, along with assisting in the question-and-answer session. Although most of these events are held in local hotels, we are always looking for alumni volunteers who are interested in hosting events in their offices and homes.
