Audio Recording and Production Program

St. John’s students may now spend a year studying at the Institute of Audio Research (IAR) in Greenwich Village and receive 30 credits towards a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s Division of Mass Communications in the College of Professional Studies.

Considered one of the foremost specialty schools in the field, since 1969 IAR has offered individuals interested in a music career a comprehensive program that teaches both the technical skills and the business side of the industry.

IAR faculty is predominantly individuals active in the New York (and international) music scene, and who keep the program modern and relevant. The IAR program includes:

  • Mixture of workshop and lab classes
  • Use of the school’s computers labs
  • Digital audio workstations
  • Audio post-production systems
  • Live recording studio/control room

No prior knowledge is required for the IAR program, which is completely complementary to the video, film, and other course offerings currently available at St. John’s. It is suggested both for students who might want music as a career, and for those who want a strong, working knowledge of modern music production.
