Undergraduate Information:
BS in Actuarial Science – The 130 credit
actuarial science program provides a broad, general business
education and, in conjunction with selected courses in mathematics,
economics, finance, accounting and insurance, prepares students for
actuarial exams that
lead to certification by common to the Casualty Actuarial Society
and the Society of Actuaries. The
program also is designed and approved to maximize the provision of
society virtual educational experience (VEE)
credit.
BS in Risk and Insurance – The 130 credit-hours program
with a major in risk and insurance prepares students for careers in
risk management with a specialization in insurance. Both Courses
offered within the program are designed to Students are encouraged
and supported in efforts to obtain industry certifications that
will enhance their career progress upon graduation.
Diploma in Risk and Insurance – A two-semester, 24
credit-hour program designed, in essence, as a "second major" for
people who did not pursue Risk Management or Insurance in their
undergraduate programs and wish to gain such a base of
knowledge. While an undergraduate degree is not a
prerequisite for admission, most people who enroll possess a
minimum of an Associate degree, significant college level study
and/or industry experience.
Students
meeting selective criteria are invited to join Gamma Iota
Sigma, a national honorary fraternity. Members must have a 3.0
cumulative grade point average. In addition to the recognition
associated with membership in an honorary organization, members
have opportunities for extensive contact and interaction with
industry representatives, through the meetings and special
conferences sponsored by the fraternity, and through the services
offered through the Gamma Iota Sigma Grand Chapter. The objectives
of the Fraternity include: to promote friendly interaction between
students, faculty and Insurance executives; to foster the
scientific study in the field of Insurance; to develop sound
thinking in Insurance theories, and a more exact knowledge and
definition of Insurance principles; and to develop a better public
understanding and appreciation of Insurance problems.
