College of Professional Studies Recognized Students at the Annual Academic Awards and Vincentian Spirit Awards Ceremony

As another academic year closes, St. John’s College of Professional Studies honors the hard work of its students during their time at the University. On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, the College of Professional Studies recognized 114 students for their outstanding contributions to the co-curricular life of the College of Professional Studies and St. John’s University with Academic Awards and Vincentian Spirit Awards.

Rev. James J.Maher, C.M., Vice President of Student Affairs attended to honor the students, with over 450 supportive friends, family, faculty and administrators who were enthusiastic to share this special night with the St. John's students.

The Dean of the College of Professional Studies, Kathleen Vouté  McDonald warmly welcomed attendees and praised all the honorees for their significant accomplishments at St. John’s University. “As Dean of the College of Professional Studies, our Awards Ceremony is an event that makes me especially proud of my role as Dean. My warmest congratulations to all our recipients and continued success in all your future endeavors.”

The night also included an Honorary Induction to Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society for Non-Traditional Students for Associate Dean Nancy McGeveran for her instrumental role in establishing and maintaining  Distance Learning Programs for the College of Professional Studies.  Associate Dean McGeveran, exclaimed “I am very surprised and very honored to receive this award.” 

Besides Associate Dean McGeveran, one of ten students admitted was Mrs. Elaine McDonald also a recipient of The Panayiotis Papadopoulos Humanist Award (sponsored by Prof. Louis Gesualdi, graduating senior that demonstrated extraordinary humanitarian qualities) and the Gold Key (for the highest grade point average in the Liberal Studies major of the graduation class). Elaine stated,” what a wonderful way to send your seniors off with a great sense of accomplishment. Tonight reflects that sense of caring and concern for students that I have always felt about the deans, staff and professors of CPS. Thanks to all of you at College of Professional Studies who helped me achieve my goal of earning a degree.”
