Division Of Criminal Justice & Legal
Studies
More than 50 students—including LES majors, members of the Criminal
Justice Association and those who are undeclared or undecided about
their majors—attended a Legal Studies Student Connection hosted by
the Staten Island Legal Studies Division on September 29.
The event, held in the Kelleher Center Presidential Room,
featured several activities led by Professor Ellen Boegel,
including “Legal Scrabble,” “You be the Judge” and “Legal
Jeopardy.” Students also shared their answers to career and
professional questions during a “Truth or Dare” contest.
Associate Dean James O’Keefe gave a short presentation on the
NYPD’s Cadet Corps at St. John’s University program and members of
the Criminal Justice Association invited interested students to
join their club. Career Counselor Maria DeBonis informed
students about the many services offered at the Career
Center. Students also were provided with information on
upcoming campus-wide debates and seminars, advisement, and the law
school application process.

The College of Professional Studies was one of 14 schools invited
to participate in a New York State competition to develop an
advertising campaign against underage drinking. In
collaboration with St. John’s College Department of Fine Arts, a
$25,000 grant was secured for the project through the State’s
Office of Wellness. Advertising students will work with TV
and Radio Production students to bring the campaign to life.
All materials are due by December 1st.
