Division of Computer Science, Mathematics and Science
Professors Helen Cloherty, Larry Stouder and Richard Scorce served as judges at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair held at the Crestwood Country Club in Westbury, Long Island on March 28, 2006.  Professor Cloherty judged the semifinalists on the last day of the competition.  She also judged six entries in the fields of mathematics and computer science.

Professor Ellen Tufano co-chaired a session on Internet Security as part of Sonia Kovalevsky Day on March 8, 2006 at St. John’s.  Sonia Kovalevsky was the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Professor Tufano explained, adding “we celebrate her achievement in hopes of encouraging female students to consider advanced study in the field of Mathematics and Science.” The program named in her honor is for high school girls throughout the metropolitan area and their teachers.

In honor of Women’s History Month, male administrators in CPS hosted a luncheon for the women of CPS.  Approximately 30 administrators and staff attended the luncheon, which was held in Bent Hall Room 277.  

On March 23, 2006, also in honor of Women’s History Month, CPS hosted a women faculty celebratory tea, chaired by Professors Judith Cramer and Nancy Rourke of the Division of Humanities Approximately 25 female faculty members attended the event at the University Center Lecture Hall.
