Brian
Browne, St. John’s Assistant Vice President for Government
Relations appeared on NY1 television’s “Queens News Now” this past
weekend to discuss the University’s “PARTICIPATE 2011” highlighted
by a “Meet the Candidate Night” open to the public on September 8
in Queens.
Browne was interviewed by “Queens News Now” host Jon Weinstein
at NY1’s Chelsea Piers Studio last week, and talked about the
collaborative effort that partners the University’s College
Democrats, College Republicans and St. John’s administrators.
For the fourth consecutive year, the University will host the
“Meet the Candidate Night” which features local candidates to
engage in a public forum open to the University, the neighboring
community and the general public.
Major party candidates running to fill the vacant seats in the
9th Congressional District and the 27th Assembly District (in a
special election on September 13) have been invited to present a
brief campaign speech to be followed by Q&A from a panel that
includes two St. John’s University undergraduates, a faculty member
and a media representative from NY1 News. The invited
candidates include:
- Mr. Bob Turner (R) Candidate for the 9th Congressional
District
- Honorable David Weprin (D) Candidate for the 9th Congressional
District
- Mr. Marco DeSena (R) Candidate for the 27th Assembly
District
- Mr. Michael Simanowitz (D) Candidate for the 27th Assembly
District
“PARTICIPATE” is a major civic-engagement initiative to
encourage and increase student voter registration, education and
community involvement.
NY1 has joined on as this year’s media partner for the “Meet the
Candidate Night.”
