Major Area Requirements
36 semester hours of courses in computer science (CUS)

  • Structured Programming Techniques
  • Mainframe Assembler Language or Microcomputer Assembler Language
  • Introduction to Data Structures
  • Business Data Management
  • Database Management Systems
  • Data Communications

3 credits from each of the following:

  • Advanced Data Structures; Survey of Languages; Event-Driven Programming; Java and World Wide Web Applications; Advanced Java Programming
  • Logical Design; Computer Architecture; Operating Systems; Compilers and Program Translation; Software Engineering; Systems Analysis; Theory of Programming Languages; Advanced Database Management Systems
  • Distributed Operating Systems; HTML and JAVA Script; Dynamic Web Page Development; Artificial Intelligence; Computers and the Law

9 additional credits in computer science, 6 of these must be selected from CUS 1144 or higher numbered courses.  CUS 1101-1108 may not be used toward the fulfillment of the major area requirements.

Specialized Area Requirements
15 semester hours of courses in telecommunications (TEL)

  • Survey of Telecommunications
  • Telecommunication Analysis

6 credits selected from the following:

  • Networking Fundamentals (Cisco Academy Semester I)
  • Routers and Router Concepts (Cisco Academy Semester II)

  • WAN Technologies and WAN Design (Cisco Academy Semester IV)

Free electives
12 semester hours selected from the courses offered through any of the undergraduate units of St. John's University.

Students completing this program will have a minor in telecommunications as well as a major in computer science.

A second language (6 credits) may be substituted for these courses.
