If you want to succeed in computer science — today’s fastest-growing profession — then discover the opportunities waiting for you at St. John’s.
Experts say 60 percent of all job growth over the next seven years will be in computer-related fields. You can prepare for these careers through St. John’s 126-credit Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Computer Science.
Offered by our College of Professional Studies, the program combines solid academic theory with the practical skills and knowledge that are vital to businesses, culture, government and society. Students gain an in-depth understanding of computer architecture, languages and systems — areas vital for industry careers, graduate study or research in computer science.
The program also allows students to enhance their degree by choosing one of these complementary academic options:
Business Option
From major corporations to mid-sized agencies, today’s businesses demand computer professionals to serve as computer programmers for business applications, database administrators, business systems analysts and information technology managers.
Computer Security Systems Option
Students prepare to defend sensitive data as a computer system security analyst, cryptanalyst, application security consultant or information assurance engineer.
Networking and Telecommunications Option
Gain the knowledge and skills for information technology careers as a telecommunications analyst, network administrator or telecommunications programmer.
Web Services Concentration
Focus on a career as a Web programmer, Web applications architect, Web systems administrator or Web software engineer/systems analyst.
Cisco Networking Academy
St. John’s participates in the Cisco Networking Academy, a comprehensive e-learning program that provides the networking knowledge and skills important to information technology careers. The four-course program prepares interested students to take the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) professional certification exam. The program delivers Web-based content, online assessment, performance tracing, hands-on labs, instructor training and support.
A 132-credit Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Computer Science also is offered by St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the University’s oldest division.
