What is Photography?
Throughout the 20th Century, photography has had an impact on how
we see and communicate with world events. In a single moment, and
in a single frame, the photographer has been able to define a
generation. From Joe Rosenthal’s “Flag Raising on Iwo Jima” to
Annie Leibovitz’s celebrity portraits for Vanity Fair, photography
has provided humanity with a lasting visual narrative of itself.
Today, with the power of digital technology, photographers can
bring that unending, unifying and pictorial journey of humanity to
a global audience as never before.
The Program
The
Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Photography is aimed
toward the growing creative and professional opportunities in
photography. Career-oriented and interdisciplinary, the degree
fuses together critical areas in aesthetics, journalism,
advertising, public relations and business. The program prepares
students for careers as photojournalists, commercial photographers
working in advertising and public relations and as staff
photographers for magazines and online publications. Students
acquire the knowledge and skills to succeed in today’s visually
driven world, and complete the program with a portfolio of
distinguished work that demonstrates their academic, creative and
technical skills.
All Digital ... all the time
Digital has become the format of choice in most fields of
professional photography. Due in part to the advances in image
technology, this is also a result of the insatiable demand for
instantaneous, high quality content creation and delivery. The
Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Photography provides
extensive training in photographic aesthetics and digital
production, as well as conceptual and critical thinking about the
ethics of digital photography and its role in the global market of
expanding communication technologies such as the Web, photo
podcasting and online digital portfolios.
