Career Opportunities
Mass Communication is one of the most successful programs at
St. John’s University. Graduates fill top positions in advertising,
film, journalism, public relations, publishing, radio, television,
video production and other fields on the metropolitan and national
level.
Communications is the largest revenue-producing industry
throughout New York State and last year, New York City alone gained
10,500 jobs in media and entertainment, reflecting a 6.6% boost.
Movie production was up 10 percent and the broadcasting industry
added 1,700 jobs.
Studies predict that communications and entertainment will
continue to be an area of entertainment growth for the next 20

Mass Communications
The
Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication offers
students the greatest possible flexibility in media studies.
Students explore a broad range of media, but also may concentrate
in advertising, film, journalism, public relations, publishing,
radio or television production.
Students are required to take courses in hands-on production,
media writing, industry organization and procedures, media history
and aesthetics.
The industry values professionals with strong business skills,
so the program stresses courses in management, marketing and
business administration. The program in Mass Communication is
offered at the Queens and Staten Island campuses in both the day
and evening divisions.
Faculty
Students learn from an outstanding faculty with extensive
professional experience. The Mass Communication
faculty includes as award winning television writer/director, a
nationally-recognized media graphics professional, a noted author
and writer for The New York Times and others with professional
backgrounds in public relations, journalism, film and video
production, marketing and advertising.
