Forest Research Institute, the Research & Development
subsidiary of Forest Laboratories, Inc., prides itself on its
strong and ongoing commitment to offer an outstanding PharmD
Fellowship program. FRI performs two core activities: evaluating
partnership opportunities for potential licensure or acquisition of
products and designing and executing drug development
programs. Approximately 1,000 R&D employees are located
in our research centers, with the majority of activities being
based out of Jersey City, NJ and Long Island, NY. Forest’s
diversified and growing portfolio offers therapies that treat a
range of conditions, including cardiovascular disease, infectious
disease, gastrointestinal disease, depression, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD), Alzheimer’s disease, and
fibromyalgia.
Fellowship Overview
This pharmaceutical industry fellowship is designed to
develop and expand the fellow’s skills to effectively practice in
the pharmaceutical industry. The program provides a broad
understanding of the global drug development process and assists
each fellow’s understanding of the key role that regulatory affairs
and clinical development have in the Drug Development Process,
including the opportunity to gain “hands on” experience concerning
the requirements to develop, approve and market new medications.
Additionally, the fellow will enhance his / her knowledge through
educational and research activities at St. John’s University
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
FRI Component
Two separate 2-year fellowship positions will be available
at FRI’s Jersey City, NJ location, each providing the Fellow with a
solid understanding of the drug development process. One fellowship
will begin in Regulatory Affairs and the other in Clinical
Development. The Fellow may rotation into other areas of interest
during the second year of the program.
St. John’s University Component
Each fellow will have opportunities at the University to
participate in activities to promote professional development
including:
- Formal and informal educational opportunities
- Collaborative research projects with St. John’s University’s
faculty
- Resident and fellow seminar series with the College of Pharmacy
and Health Professions
- Graduate degree programs available at the University to further
his or her educational development (Master’s or PhD degrees)
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of the fellowship program, a
certificate will be awarded by St. John’s University College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Forest Research Institute.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, candidates must be graduates of an Accreditation
Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy
Program before July 1 of the fellowship term and have a strong
interest in a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Interviews
begin at the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists
(ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in December.
