Academic Standing
The Clinical Laboratory Sciences program requires an overall grade point average and Math/Science/Professional grade point average of 2.3 or better by the end of the first year, and must be maintained through the junior year. In addition to the academic requirements to enter the professional phase, a progression interview is required. During the senior year (professional phase), the student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.3 in each course to graduate. Students should consult with the Dean’s office each semester to determine their academic standing.
Certification
The graduate of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program receives a diploma and a professional certificate from St. John’s University. The graduate is eligible for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certifying exam. Successful completion of the courses leading to a Bachelor of Science and passing the ASCP certifying examination allows the graduates to apply to the New York State Department of Education for a license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
