Manouchkathe Cassagnol

Clinical Pharmacy Professor Honored by Industry Peers

Manouchkathe Cassagnol, Pharm.D., Assistant Clinical Professor of Clinical Pharmacy Practice at St. John’s University, has received the Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists’ 2012 President’s Award.

The award, presented to Dr. Cassagnol on May 19 at a special ceremony in Houston, TX, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the vision and mission of the Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists (ABHP).

“Manouchkathe has been an invaluable resource, both to me and to the Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists,” said Aisha Morris Moultry, Pharm.D, President of ABHP. “I am truly grateful for her contributions.”

Dr. Cassagnol expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to advocate for the pharmacy profession while inspiring future pharmacists to become involved with ABHP. “To be recognized by the organization in this way is humbling,” she said. “I’m honored to be able to serve the organization and carry its mission forward.”

Now entering her sixth year in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John’s, Dr. Cassagnol also serves as a consultant clinical pharmacist on the Coronary Care Unit of Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ). The center is a clinical and academic hub of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.

Dr. Cassagnol researches the impact on patients of the center’s Follow-Me-Home Medication Reconciliation Program. This program identifies and tries to resolve patients’ problems with medication after they’ve been discharged from a hospital setting.

A proponent of both experiential and service learning, Dr. Cassagnol provides her Clinical Pharmacy Practice students with opportunities to do field work at the center. “My relationship with LIJ serves two purposes,” she said. “It helps our students to prepare for the ever-changing landscape of pharmacy practice, and it provides a much-needed service to the community.”

Robert A. Mangione, Ed.D., R.Ph., Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, praised Dr. Cassagnol’s achievements. “Manouchkathe Cassagnol is an extraordinary faculty member and a wonderful person,” he said. “She is truly worthy of this honor.”
