St. John's University to Hold Annual 'Walk for the Homeless,' April 2

March 30, 2010

St. John’s University will hold its annual ‘Walk for the Homeless” on Friday April 2. It is a tradition for the St. John’s community to hold this walk, designed to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness in New York City, on Good Friday each year.

The Office of Campus Ministry and the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. John’s University will sponsor the 5K walk, which takes place in solidarity with the poor. This event is part of the Lent Program ‘Work with Me,’ which includes several community service initiatives during the 40 days of Lent.

Prior to the walk, the event will open with a prayer service at 9 a.m. in St. Thomas More Church.   Participants will then head off campus and down Union Turnpike, led by a cross bearer to American Martyrs Church on Bell Blvd. for a reflection prayer before heading back to St. John’s for a light lunch.
