Pursuing an education has not always been an easy process for
Junhee Lee, “School has always been a challenge for me because
English is my third language, but before I began my first day at
St. John’s I set a goal of maintaining a 3.5 GPA.” Junhee was born
in Korea moved to Paraguay and came to the U.S. when he was only 10
years old. By committing to his studies and devoting extra time to
his work, Junhee was able to maintain an overall average of 3.7
throughout his college career.
As a seminarian student studying to become a Roman Catholic
priest, Jun searched for student organizations that were
dedicated to his beliefs in charity and prayer: “As I looked
around at all of the organizations during an Activity Fair I
found the perfect group, the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Confraternity.” As an active member, Junhee participates in several
community service projects like teaching religious education at a
nearby parish or preparing dinner for the elderly at nursing
homes.
This philosophy
major's reason for choosing St. John’s is unique, “Most of the
seminarians of the Diocese of Brooklyn, Queens, and Rockville
Centre are sent to St. John’s University. Even though St. John’s
was assigned for me, it is clear why Bishop DiMarzio, the bishop of
the Diocese of Brooklyn, trusted St. John’s with my education.”
Junhee believes the fascinating classes and well-educated
and passionate professors are what make St. John’s a great place to
get an education.
“Another great thing about St. John’s besides the great classes
and faculty members is the students. Even though St. John's is a
Catholic University, it is made up of people with so many different
religions, beliefs and cultures which makes it such a special and
unique place to be.”
