Educational Background:
Catholic University, English Literature, B.A., 1959
Catholic University, Religious Education, M.A., 1968
Catholic University, Religious Education, Ph.D., 1974

I have been on the faculty since 1975, tenured since 1981.  I have written more than a dozen books and have lectured in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and Ireland.  I have worked often with religious education and catechetical leaders at the United States Catholic Conference.  There is a new edition of Perspectives on Marriage in the hands of Oxford University.  A new book on youth ministry has already been accepted by Martin Kennedy, the representative of Veritas Publications, the Irish bishops publication house.  I finished an essay for a book on youth catechesis being edited by the catechetical office in Washington. My book At This Time In This Place is to be published in a new edition by Novalis in Canada, but only after I do some revisions, probably during the summer or next semester.

Significant Research
In both my marriage and the course on ministry, there is ongoing study of current issues.  This work is ongoing throughout the semester but also ad hoc, dealing with matters as they surface.  Results of these activities can be found in the forthcoming 3rd edition of Perspectives on Marriage, which I suspect will continue to be the most widely used text for the marriage course in Catholic universities.  This revision done in the summer and fall of 2005 should be published by Fall, 2006.

I would expect that my work on pastoral ministry, on youth ministry, and marriage has influenced curricula in diocesan programs but also in university courses on pastoral work—in both Protestant denominations and the Catholic Church.   The National Federation of Youth Ministry and the head of the national catechetical office at the Bishops’ Conference in Washington are in regular contact with me.

Most of my research has been on issues around money.  In the new 3rd edition [in press] of Perspectives on Marriage [eds. M. Warren and K. Scott] I have written an essay for the new edition on money issues, needing attention by young people preparing for marriage: “The Letter to Emily.”

Professional Activities
I continue to speak in parishes.  My current interest is speaking with lay persons on the connections between spirituality and wealth.
