Before coming to St. John’s in 1993, he taught at Rockhurst College
in Kansas City, MO, and Marquette University, Alverno College, and
Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, WI
Scholarship
I’m currently working on the book: Word and Risk: Christian Social
Witness and Postmodernity. This book principally engages the
theological ethics of Karl Barth, while addressing current issues
in Christian social ethics, including the market economy and
globalization, work and leisure, church and state, politics and
war, and social and environmental justice.
Publications
He has published the book: Dependence and Freedom: The Moral
Thought of Horace Bushnell (University Press of America,
1994). He further wrote an extensive introductory essay in,
Karl Barth, Community, Church, and State: Three Essays. With a New
Introduction by David Haddorff (Wipf & Stock, 2004): 1-69.
Some of his more recent articles include: “The Postmodern
Realism in Barth’s Ethics” in the Scottish Journal of Theology
57/3; and “Religion and the Market: Opposition, Absorption, or
Ambiguity?” in Review of Social Economy 58/4. He has
published many other articles in journals such as: Union Seminary
Quarterly Review, Horizons and Encounter.

He has numerous presentations in national and international
conferences including: Annual Meeting of the Society of Christian
Ethics, National Conference of the American Academy of Religion,
Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference of the American Academy of
Religion, Annual Meeting of the College Theology Society, Annual
Conference of Church History, Annual Conferences of Christian
Philosophy, and International Conference Promoting Business
Ethics.
