Educational Background
Dr. Devoy holds a B.A. from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, an
M.S. in Ed. From St. John’s University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in
Theology from Fordham University, NY. In addition, she has
studied on the post-doctoral level at the Graduate Theological
Union, Berkeley, Ca through a grant from the National Endowment for
the Humanities and has done research at the American Catholic
University, Leuven, Belgium.
Scholarship and Publications
The work of Teilhard de Chardin, Maurice Blondel, and Johann-Adam
Mohler, as well as topics concerning the Dominican Order have been
topics on which she has published in The Teilhard Review, Seminar
papers of the American Academy of Religion, and Dominican
Ashram. In addition, she has contributed dictionary articles
in nineteenth-century topics and has written several
Scripture reflections for the Brooklyn Diocesan paper, the Brooklyn
Tablet.
Present research includes the relationship in Catholic Theology
between ecotheological concerns and the Sacraments, particularly
the Eucharist. Having presented several papers on the topic,
she is working towards a longer, cohesive treatment of the
topic. Additionally, she is researching elements of
Blondelian thought in the method of John Paul II.
Presentations
Since 1987 Dr, Devoy has presented sixteen papers at the annual
meetings of scholarly Societies such as The American Academy of
Religion and the College Theology Society. Topics
include: The Spirituality of Pope John Paul II, John Henry
Newman on Tradition, Maurice Blondel’s treatment of the Act of
Faith, and other nineteenth-century theological figures.
Other presentations have included those to Molloy College,
Rockville Centre, NY and The University of the Incarnate Word in
San Antonio, TX, as well as parish presentations in the Long
Island, NY area.
