Edward G. Skirde, Ph.D.

Vice President Emeritus and Associate Professor of Speech

For the past thirty-seven years, Dr. Skirde has served St. John’s University in a variety of faculty and administrative positions.  He is currently Associate Professor of Speech in St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Prior to his return to the classroom in 2006, Dr. Skirde served as the Executive Director of Development at St. John’s School of Law, from 2000 to 2006, raising more than $15 million for scholarship, academic programs and capital improvements.

From 1997 to 2000, Dr. Skirde returned once again to the classroom to teach and serve as the Director of the Academic Internship Program in St. John’s College at the University’s Staten Island Campus.  Prior to that assignment Dr. Skirde served as Vice President for Development and subsequently Vice President for Institutional Advancement from 1985 to 1997 where he had the responsibility for the administration, supervision and strategic planning for the Division of Institutional Advancement to include the departments of Development, Alumni Relations and Public Relations.  Dr. Skirde managed and directed the University’s first Capital Campaign raising $54.6 million toward a goal of $50 million.

Dr. Skirde has also served in such capacities as Administrative Vice President for the University’s Staten Island campus, University Director of Alumni Relations, Assistant Academic Dean of Notre Dame College, Director of the Community Service Program and Academic Chairperson of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies.

The University has recognized his accomplishments and achievements by awarding him the President’s Medal, the Pietas Medal, the Outstanding Administrative Achievement Award and the Outstanding Alumni Achievement award.  In 1997, Dr. Skirde was named Vice President Emeritus and in 2006, the School of Law presented Dr. Skirde with the Dean’s Award.  He was named to Who’s Who In America in 2004.

His community activities have included membership in numerous civic, educational and philanthropic organizations in New York, while most recently serving on the  Boards of Trustees of the former St. Vincent’s Medical Center of Richmond, Notre Dame Academy and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home.

Dr. Skirde received his Bachelor of Arts Degree for St. John’s University and his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees from The Pennsylvania State University.
