Welcome to the Department of Rhetoric, Communication and
Theatre. The Department offers communication courses that feature
both performance activities and emphasize the theory, history, and
criticism of rhetorical communication. The Department is the home
of the St. John’s University Debate Society providing students
opportunities to compete in British Parliamentary debate
tournaments throughout the United States and abroad. Our
experienced faculty pursues a teaching philosophy that helps
students achieve personal fulfillment, civic engagement and career
success. In addition to providing public speaking classes for
hundreds of students every semester, the Department also offers a
major in Public Address, minors in
public address and several communication specialties, and a minor
in Theatre.
