The Department of Sociology and Anthropology aims to educate
students about social and cultural forces influencing human
behavior. The program develops skills in sociological and
anthropological research and the analysis of small groups,
organizations, and communities, leading to careers as professors,
researchers, consultants, or as sociologically and
anthropologically-informed practitioners regardless of the setting.
Students planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology, Anthropology or
related disciplines will receive preparation enabling them to
pursue academic teaching/research careers.
Areas of research include criminal justice, deviance,
criminology, sociology of law, clinical sociology, medical
sociology, sociology of mental health and disability, health
professions and community placement of developmentally
disabled.
