Prof. Chasen has been teaching geology and physics at St. John's since 1980. She worked for AOL for many years, helping to develop online areas, managing a staff of community leaders and fostering online communities. Prof. Chasen is experienced in online education, offering her geology and scientific inquiry geoscience courses in the distance learning program, and uses web-based materials as a supplement to her geology lecture course.

Prof. Chasen is a recipient of the Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship Award for 2003. The award was presented at the 2003 Commencement through St. John's and the Center for Teaching and Learning. Additionally, she received the Exceptional Service Award at the 2005 Faculty Convocation.

She is a first-year faculty participant in the University's Title III Grant - Transforming Teaching with Technology, a project on the cutting-edge in the use of technology in education.

She is a member of the Geological Society of America, Mineralogical Society of America, American Institute of Physics/American Crystallographic Association, New York Academy of Sciences and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
