PROFILE
Joseph Califano has been a member of the Philosophy Department since 1963.  Dr. Califano has taught a variety of courses across disciplines, including history, science, and economics. He has published on such topics as “Integrity, Wealth, Poverty and Peace” and “Technology and Violence in the 21st Century” in The Journal of Contemporary Philosophy.  He has given presentations at national and international scholarly convocations that have appeared in publications in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.  Dr. Califano has presented on “The Person, the Energy Crisis and the Common Good” at the International Commission on Energy Use Management, “The Use of Extraordinary Means in the Treatment of Children” at the American Cancer Society, and “The Credibility Crisis in the Teaching of Moral Philosophy in the 21st Century” at the World Congress of Philosophy.  He was a co-founder of the American Maritain Association and has served as its Chancellor for 2 years as well as in other executive positions.  Dr. Califano has received grants from the National Science Foundation and the De Rance Foundation.  Dr. Califano was ordained to the order of the permanent diaconate in 2002.
