Rome, the cradle of civilization and the seat of Christendom is the nation’s capital where the St. John’s University Italian study abroad program is situated. Italy’s ties to Rome brought her to the forefront of civilization in the high Middle Ages through the Renaissance (Rinascimento). Today, Italy continues to impact the global scene in its contributions to fields such as art, music, fashion, food, wine, literature and science.Italy is a founding member of the EU, the G8 and the G20 and harbors one of the highest concentrations of NATO and US bases in the world. Why Italian?Career opportunities abound for professionals with Italian language skills. More than 1,000 U.S. firms have offices in Italy, where an estimated 7,500 American companies do business. Italy enjoys a booming tourist industry with millions visiting Rome each year. Italian language and culture courses continue to grow in schools throughout the United States. Every year tens of thousands of students of all ages choose to study the Italian language,Italy is the first non- English speaking destination for American students.  St. John's Rome campus is a perfect opportunity for students to enjoy this great culture, its language and its people.You can prepare for these exciting opportunities by majoring or minor ing in Italian at St. John’s University. Our 33-credit major immerses students in Italian language and culture. Students are always encouraged to double major. Our 18 credit minor allows students to combine their knowledge in Italian language and culture with a major field of study.
