Pi Delta Phi, the national French honor society, was formed in
1925 in order to recognize outstanding scholarship in French
language and its literatures, to increase the knowledge and
appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the
French-speaking world, and to stimulate and encourage French and
Francophone cultural activities.
The Delta pi Chapter at St. John’s inducts students in the
spring. Membership is open to students who have taken at least
three semesters of college French, of which one must be above the
2050C level, have a 3.5 average in their French courses, and a 3.0
GPA overall.
Members of Pi Delta Phi are eligible for the Joseph W. Yedlicka
Award for summer study in French language and literature in either
Paris or Avignon.
We are now inviting students to apply for membership. Please
submit your application either to Prof. Jane Highfield, (718)
990-2092, highfiem@stjohns.edu, or
Prof. Zoe Petropoulou, (718) 990-5205, petropoz@stjohns.edu.
