M.A.in English from the University of Nantes, France, teaching certification from the French Ministry of Education (CAPES), certificate in French>English translation from New York University, Ph.D. in French from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York.

Publications and Fields of Specialization

Le Theatre national en France de 1800 a 1830, a book on the origins of romanticism in the French theater published by Klincksieck in Paris.

Main field of interest: translation studies and the comparative stylistics of English and French with a book on translation, The Beginning Translator's Workbook, or the ABC of French to English Translation, University Press of America, 1997. This book is currently used as a textbook in advanced translation courses at a number of universities across America and the United Kingdom.

Presentations at international conferences held by the American Translators Association (ATA)

Article in the ATA Chronicle, Teaching French>English Translation to Beginning Translators: A Linguistic Approach, Vol XXVIII, Number I.

Other area of specialty: Francophone Literature of the Caribbean and Africa, in particular authors of the post-negritude era. Has made presentations at various conferences on the subject and introduced a course on Francophone African and Afro-Caribbean Literature at St. John's University, which has been taught since 1993.
