Dr. Frank Cantelmo

Dr. Cantelmo received his Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the
City University of New York and is an Associate Professor in the
Department of Biological Sciences and the Environmental Studies
Program at St. John’s University. He currently teaches a wide range
of courses including Aquatic Ecology; Resource Management, Ecology
and Evolution, Senior Seminar in Environmental Studies, and the
Honors course in Scientific Inquiry-Environmental Science. During
the past 30 years, he has planned and conducted many pollution
related studies in the NY/metropolitan area and in the Gulf of
Mexico. Dr. Cantelmo is on the Board of Directors of the
educational Non-Profit “SoundWaters”. As a board member, he
volunteers to train the education staff at the Environmental Center
and the crew aboard the 80’ schooner SoundWaters. He is also
an environmental expert to H.E. Archbishop Celestino Migliore,
Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. Dr.
Cantelmo has received a number of awards at St. John's including
"Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Research" and the St.
John's University Presidential Medal. Dr. Cantelmo was
honored in 2004 for twenty-five years of distinguished service at
St. John's University.
