Students majoring in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
gain a solid foundation in the science of speech, hearing and the
diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting those vital
functions.
Yet students experience much more than classwork. Under the
guidance of the department's faculty — nationally recognized
scholar-practitioners — students also gain hands-on experience in
research and field work.
For example, students have an opportunity to conduct field work
at St. John's acclaimed Speech
and Hearing Center, a state-of-the-art facility for the
diagnosis and treatment of speech, language and hearing disorders
in children and adults. All staff pathologists and audiologists are
certified by the American Speech-Language
Hearing Association (ASHA).
Students develop a strong academic and professional edge by
joining any of St. John's more than 180 student
clubs and organizations. Clubs of particular interest to majors
in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology include:
- National Student Speech Language Hearing
Association
- Medical Technology Club
- Communications Club
The Skull and Circle Honor Society and the
Lambda Kappa Phi Honor Society annually select
students from St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who
combine scholarship, integrity and dedicated service to the St.
John's community. Students also may be eligible for membership in
the University's various honor societies, including these:
- Sigma Alpha Eta: Speech-Language Pathology and
Audiology
- Epsilon Delta: Speech Communication Arts and
Public Address
- Roger Bacon Honor Society: biology, chemistry,
mathematics, physics, psychology or environmental studies
Every student at St. John's benefits from outstanding
University-wide facilities and resources. For example, all new

the University's award-winning network.
Other facilities include high-tech classrooms, laboratories and
our 1.7 million-volume University Library. Our new D'Angelo Center is a
five-story, 127,000-square-foot University and Student Center with
classrooms, lecture halls, a Starbucks Café and a full-service food
court.
All students take advantage of St. John's location in dynamic
New York City. Our faculty and Career

educational resources throughout the New York area. Students make
New York their classroom through innovative courses like Discover New York.
