Epsilon Kappa, the St. John’s University Chapter of the National
Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi, will host a special evening
of Hispanic culture on Thursday, October 12. This free event, which
will include dancing, singing and musical performances, is open to
the public and will be held in Council Hall on St. John’s Queens
campus and will begin at 6:30 pm.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Epsilon Kappa will present the
eleventh issue of the literary journal Entre Rascacielos. Under the
direction of Dr. Marie-Lise Gazarian, Coordinator of the Graduate
Program in Spanish, and Co-Editor Mónica Sánchez, the journal
serves as a forum and an incentive for creative writing for both
St. John’s students and the Hispanic community and has brought
their work to international attention. Several of the students,
alumni, and guest writers, whose works are included in the journal,
will read selections of their poetry.
The event will also include six Hispanic artistic groups who
will perform to honor the diversity of cultures and talents within
the Hispanic world. These groups include Mexico’s Selene Muñoz and
Pryscilla; Eddie Machado from Colombia; the Nuevo Milenio Group
from Panama; the Feliciana Sisters from Guatemala, and Edwin Arzú
and his Group from the Central America Garifuna Community and were
provided by Eddie Ferreira and César Ordóñez.
