Art Scholarships
30th Annual Fine Arts Scholarship Competition
for the 2012-2013 Academic Year for High School
Seniors
St. John’s University Department of Fine Arts will again be
offering full and partial scholarships to Fall 2011 incoming
freshmen who demonstrate a proficiency in the visual arts: drawing,
painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustration, graphic design and
photography.
Requirements:
1. A portfolio with a minimum of 10
pieces of work. Portfolios will be accepted in one of two
forms:
Entry Option 1:
CD containing jpeg images formatted at 72 or 96 dpi, and maximum
dimensions not to exceed 768 x 1024, or an Adobe PDF document
containing images of your artwork. The CD must also contain a list
formatted as word.doc, indicating the title, medium, size, and date
of each artwork included in the CD portfolio. If you submit your
portfolio as a PDF document, the list information may be
incorporated directly in the PDF.
Entry Option 2: Original work that is clearly labeled
and neatly presented.
All mailed in digital portfolios must be received by February
10th, 2012. All original portfolios must be dropped off in person
on between Monday, February 6th, and Friday February 10th, 2012
between the hours 9:00AM – 3:00PM.
ALL MAILED IN PORTFOLIOS MUST INCLUDE AN SASE FOR RETURN OF
MATERIALS. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE MAILING OF ORIGINAL ART
WORK.
2. A letter of recommendation from your Art
Teacher, Art Chairperson, Counselor or Principal.
3. A completed Fine Arts Scholarship Application,
must accompany your application.
4. All students wishing to be considered for the
program must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Application
(TAP).IMPORTANT:
You may apply even if you are not YET accepted or have not YET
filed for Financial Aid.
Acceptance into St. John’s University (Bachelor of Fine Arts
Program with a major in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Photography, or
Illustration) is a prerequisite to receive this scholarship. (A
separate application for admission into the University must be
filed with the Office of Admission before a scholarship can be
awarded.)
Portfolios are evaluated according to the following criteria:
1. Artistic expression and sensitivity
2. Technique 3. Concept
