Graphic Design students at St. John's gain a solid
foundation in design theory and the skills to apply that theory to
the media that people use and enjoy in every aspect of contemporary
life.
The Department of Fine Arts offers full and
partial scholarships to freshmen with a record of exemplary
skills in high school. Two full-time, four-year scholarships
are awarded to students who demonstrate extraordinary
proficiency in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking,
illustration, graphic design and photography.
St. John’s also bestows a $1,000 incentive
scholarship to high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in
the visual arts. Students are selected through portfolio review.

Students learn from an enormously gifted, internationally known
faculty of artists whose work appears in galleries,
exhibitions and publications across the country and
around the world. Guided by their professors, students make use of
the outstanding resources available at St. John's and in New York
City itself.
Art internships are available to according to their interests
and career objectives. Design students have been placed in top New
York-area corporations, including: Miramax Films, MTV
Networks, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, Marvel
Toys, Grey
Advertising, McCann-Erikson, Mizerek
Advertising agencies and many more.
St. John's facilities provide an ideal atmosphere for
students to learn as they create under the guidance of master
teachers. For example, the state-of-the-art
Sullivan Hall Graphic Classroom features cutting-edge
graphic design equipment and software, including Quark Xpress,
Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe
PageMill, Microsoft Office, Macromedia Director, Macromedia
Freehand, Dreamweaver, Flash, Macromedia Fontographer and
Macromedia Sound Edit.
Fine Arts students enjoy abundant opportunities to exhibit
their work. Located in Sun Yat-Sen Hall on the Queens campus, the
Dr. M.T. Geoffrey Art
Gallery is a prominent showcase not only for established
artists beyond the campus community, but for professors and
students as well.
Students develop a strong academic and
professional edge by joining any of St. John's more than 180 student
clubs and organizations. Clubs of interest to Fine Arts
students include these:

The Skull and Circle Honor Society and the
Lambda Kappa Phi Honor Society annually select
students from St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who
combine scholarship, integrity and dedicated service to the St.
John's community.
Every student at St. John's benefits
from outstanding University-wide facilities and
resources. For example, all new students receive their own
wireless laptop computer with full access to
the University's award-winning network.
Other facilities include high-tech classrooms, laboratories and
our 1.7 million-volume University Library. Our new D’Angelo Center is a
five-story, 127,000-square-foot University and Student Center with
classrooms, lecture halls, a Starbucks Café and a full-service food
court.
All students take advantage of St. John’s location in dynamic
