The Service Learning Program has been a component of a St.
John’s education since 1995. It attempts to integrate curricula
from a variety of academic areas (i.e. Education, Sociology,
Psychology, Business, Pharmacy and Theology) with service.
This program promotes intellectual and spiritual growth.
Practical experiences within real-life settings facilitate
reflection, critical thinking and analytical skills. The
requirements of many Education courses include 20 hours of service
learning in classrooms to acquire hands-on experience with
children. This counts as part of course credit with an
evaluation.
