 Jumpstart Queens at St. John’s University is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 academic year! 

Jumpstart is a program that recruits undergraduate college students to mentor at-risk preschool children. Join us for the 8th programming year at St. John’s to read stories, sing songs and play games that support young children’s school readiness in a local early childhood center. 

We are looking for students who can commit 10-12 hours a week and must be available to participate starting fall 2011 in one of the four options: (1) Monday and Thursday from 9am-12pm, (2) Monday and Thursday from 2-5pm, (3) Tuesday and Friday from 9am-12pm, or (4) Tuesday and Friday from 2-5pm. The remaining hours will be flexible based on your schedule. Students are eligible to earn an hourly wage of $10 only if they receive federal work-study (FWS) funds.  

Upon completion of 300 hours of service during the 2011-2012 academic year, you  will be eligible for an AmeriCorps award of $1,132.
