Jumpstart is a national
early literacy non-profit organization that works towards the day
when every child in America enters school prepared to
succeed. Jumpstart accomplishes this mission by supporting
Corps members to work individually with young children in preschool
settings.
During Jumpstart's school year program, at-risk children of ages 3
to 5 years are paired 1 to 1 with Jumpstart Corps members for
focused attention to build language and literacy, initiative, and
social relations skills.
Children participate in groups of 8-10, with their assigned Corps
members, in a 2- hour Jumpstart session twice a week. During
the session, Corps members implement a curriculum focused on
Jumpstart's 17 School Success Outcomes.
Jumpstart can offer schools:
- Well-trained Corps members who engage children in activities
that promote school success
- 1 to 1 mentoring for young children
- Lower teacher/child ratio during Classroom Assistance-Time
- Opportunities for increased family involvement
- Links to local universities and colleges
For information on becoming a Corps member view the Jumpstart Web site or contact
