A.C.E.I.
When you select the Association for Childhood Education
International as your professional education association, you will
join one of the oldest education associations in the world. Founded
in 1892, ACEI Promotes the inherent rights of children and the
professional development of classroom teachers. ACEI’s focus is
from birth through middle childhood, so no matter what age of
children you will be teaching, ACEI has programs to help you.
America Reads * America Serves
The America Reads * America Serves program calls on all Americans
to support teachers as they help ensure that every American child
can read well and independently by the end of third grade. St.
John's University students play an important role in the America
Reads Challenge by working with students who need extra help beyond
the classroom. In addition, student employees also participate in
volunteer services and charitable fundraisers benefiting the St.
John's University community.
Jumpstart
Jumpstart is a national early literacy non-profit organization that
works towards the day when every child in America enters school
prepared to succeed. Jumpstart accomplishes this mission by
supporting Corps members to work individually with young children
in preschool settings.
Service Learning Program
Academic Service-Learning drives the School's many organizations;
academic excellence drives the others. With tremendous
opportunities to get involved in the teaching community while
completing their studies from the freshman through senior years in
more than 40 schools in the metropolitan area, our students gain
experience and learn cultural sensitivity, both of which make them
more attractive hires.
S.T.A.R.
St. John's University is an exciting place for freshmen to explore
and grow, as well as a place for them to begin working towards
their professional goals. S.T.A.R., Students Teaching Academic
Responsibilities will help us achieve this. By providing incoming
freshmen with peer buddies, we are making the transition into The
School of Education seem more exciting and less intimidating.
S.T.A.R. will familiarize students with various resources available
to them and help them with any concerns they have during their
first year as a college student.
